Treatments

ClosureFast radiofrequency ablation.

The gold-standard minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins and venous reflux — performed through a single puncture under local anesthesia, with the only RFA system that has published long-term clinical data.

Overview

Closing failed veins with controlled heat

ClosureFast™ is a radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedure that uses a thin, disposable catheter to deliver precisely-controlled heat to the inside of a diseased vein. The vein wall responds by contracting and sealing closed — and your body reroutes blood through healthy veins nearby.

It's the most extensively studied endovenous closure procedure available, with published five-year clinical data backing its durability. Most patients walk in, have the procedure under local anesthesia in under an hour, and walk back out the same day.

The only radiofrequency ablation system with published long-term clinical data on its outcomes.

How it works

The procedure, step by step

01
Disposable catheter inserted into vein
Under ultrasound guidance, a small thin catheter is passed through a tiny puncture and positioned in the diseased great or small saphenous vein. No incision is needed.
02
Vein heats and collapses
The catheter delivers controlled radiofrequency energy in precise 7-second segments. Targeted heat causes the vein wall to contract and seal closed — permanently rerouting blood through nearby healthy veins.
03
Catheter withdrawn, vein closed
The catheter is gradually pulled back to treat the entire diseased segment. Once complete, it's removed and a small bandage placed over the puncture. The treated vein is reabsorbed by the body over the following months.

Tumescent anesthesia

Comfort + safety

Before the radiofrequency catheter is activated, a dilute local anesthetic is injected around the vein. This serves three purposes: it numbs the area completely, it physically compresses the vein to maximize contact with the catheter, and it absorbs heat away from surrounding tissue.

You stay awake and comfortable throughout. No general anesthesia, no breathing tube, no overnight stay.

The technology

A purpose-built RFA system

The ClosureFast catheter and RFG3 generator are engineered specifically for venous closure. The system delivers radiofrequency energy in precisely-controlled 7-second cycles, maintaining the vein wall at the optimal closure temperature without overshooting.

Real-time temperature feedback ensures consistent, reliable closure along the entire treated segment — which is a major reason for the procedure's long-term durability.

What to expect

From walk-in to walk-out

Plan on about an hour in the office. The procedure itself usually takes 30 to 45 minutes once you're prepped. We ask that someone drive you home, though most patients feel ready to drive themselves the next day.

Compression stockings are worn for about a week afterward to support healing. Mild soreness or bruising along the treated vein is normal and fades over 1–2 weeks. Symptoms — heaviness, aching, restless legs — typically begin improving within days.

ClosureFast is performed in our Pompano Beach office. No hospital, no general anesthesia, and you walk out the same day.
